At night, you look at their tiny faces and wish you could pause time. That’s what First Birthday portraits do. They give you the chance to hold on to these moments before they pass.
Our North Ogden portrait studio makes the entire experience simple and meaningful. From designing a custom setup to choosing wall art and keepsakes, we’ll walk you through every step.

What to Expect from Your Baby’s First Birthday Portrait Experience
Every baby is unique, and their first birthday deserves more than just a quick photo. Your four-step process is here to make your experience simple, joyful, and full of meaning. From the moment you reach out to the day your portraits go up on the wall, we’re with you every step of the way.
Discovery Call and Planning
Once you fill out the form, we’ll give you a quick call to learn more about your baby and what this milestone means to you.
We’ll talk through session details, choose a date, plan your theme or colors, and get you thinking about artwork you might want. When you're ready to book, we’ll send over your contract and invoice to lock everything in.

Your Portrait Experience
The day you have been waiting for!
On the day of your 1st birthday smash cake experience, all you need to do is show up to our North Ogden studio with your baby and enjoy the moment.
We’ll guide you through three custom scenes.
1. Starting with a clean set with balloons. This set is designed to show off all your little ones personality and who they are right now in the moment in time.
2. Then your milestone setup. This is where we will show off how much your little one has grown over this year.
3. And finishing with the cake smash themed set you selected. We provide the cake and balloons so you don’t have to worry about a thing. It’s all about celebrating their personality and joy.
Once your birthday experience is over we will clean up the cake, while you clean up baby. Then we will set your reveal party appointment.
Unveiling Your Story
The moment everything shifts.
About 48 hrs after your session, you’ll come back to the studio to see your portraits for the first time.
This is where you make your final purchases. We guide you through choosing the portraits you love most, then we help you match each favorite to artwork for your home. Think storybook albums designed to tell the story of their 1st year, wall art, (we have custom gallery wall designs built for your space.)
You’ll leave your Reveal Party with more than portraits. You’ll leave with a full heart, because you will see your baby’s first year in a way words never cover. You will also have daily reminders of how small, loved, and amazing your baby was, right there on your walls and in your hands.
Art Work Unveiling
It is finally time you get to hold it all in your hands.
Your custom newborn artwork is ready. Everything has been carefully prepared, beautifully finished, and created to show your baby’s first year. The way they were meant to be seen, in your home, and not on a screen.
When you return to the studio, you will see your portraits as finished pieces, printed, tangible, and real. We’ll walk through each item together to make sure every detail feels perfect, because you chose these pieces for a reason.
This is more than a pickup appointment. This is a celebration of your baby’s first chapter, and a daily reminder of how, loved, a your baby is, every time you walk by your walls or open your album.
1st Year Baby Plan
Your Baby’s First Year Story
The first year moves fast. You blink, and your newborn becomes a baby who smiles, sits up, and reaches for you with purpose. Your First Year Baby Plan holds onto those changes with portraits that bring you right back to the feeling of this season.
You choose between two plan options, both built around love, simplicity, and support. Our most popular plan includes three portrait experiences: Newborn, Little Sit, and First Birthday. The second plan includes everything in the most popular plan, plus one additional milestone experience for families who want more chapters in the story, as well as tangible products.
After each milestone, you return for a Reveal Party. You see your portraits for the first time, you feel the rush all over again, and you make your final purchases for artwork and albums. Your baby’s story moves off your phone and into your home, on your walls, on your shelves, and in your hands.
At the end of your baby plan, you will receive a 9 image collage with 3 portraits from each miles stone session.
First Birthday Photography FAQs
What days do we photograph 1st birthday experiences?
We know nap times are important, and we have found that 10:00 AM and 1:00 PM usually work best for little ones. We can book first birthday experiences Monday through Thursday, but those times tend to be the best fit for most babies.
Our last appointment time is 3:00 PM. Weekends and evenings are reserved for other appointment types.
When should I book my baby’s first birthday portrait experience?
We recommend reaching out a few months ahead when possible so we have time to plan your theme, colors, and date. If your baby’s birthday is coming up quickly, still reach out. We will always do our best to fit you in.
Do I have to bring my own cake?
No. We know you are busy, and this is one way we help remove stress from your day. When we talk on the phone to plan your experience, we will go over colors and themes, and then we will take care of getting the cake ordered for you. Your baby will get to enjoy a handmade cake from our cake maker, Trista.
If your baby has a food allergy, we are not able to provide the cake, so we will talk through the best option with you.
What themes are available for my session?
We have a wide variety of props and backgrounds and can usually create most themes or color combinations. Many parents also bring in small elements from the birthday party decorations to help personalize the set.
When we talk on the phone, we can go over the options and create a look you will love. We can create an inspired-by theme, but we cannot do trademarked characters. For example, we can create the feel of a Pooh-inspired birthday with the right colors, textures, and details, but we cannot use the actual characters.
What should my baby wear?
We will help guide you based on the theme and colors you choose. Most families bring a simple outfit for the first portraits and another outfit for the cake smash portion if they want one.
Are parents and siblings included?
Yes, parents and siblings can be included in a few portraits during the first part of the experience. Because babies this age often have a short window before they are done, we usually recommend keeping the main focus on your little one and their big milestone.
We are always happy to include family portraits when that matters most to you, and we can talk through the best plan when we schedule your experience.
What is included with my $199 retainer?
Your $199 retainer reserves your baby’s first birthday portrait experience and includes your discovery call and planning, your studio portrait experience, your reveal and ordering appointment, editing of purchased portraits, and your artwork pickup appointment.
Portraits, digital images, and products are purchased separately after you see your images.
Do you offer digital images?
Yes. All of our custom-designed albums and keepsake image boxes come with matching digital images and a print release.
Digital images are also available in other ways. We love helping families enjoy printed portraits that last, but we also know digital images matter. You can purchase a collection of high-resolution digital images at your reveal and ordering appointment if that is the best fit for you.
How many images do you take?
After your experience, we prepare your images for you to view at your reveal and ordering appointment. From most first birthday experiences, we show between 30 and 50 portraits for you to choose from for your artwork and products.
During your experience, we usually photograph three parts of the story: a simple set with balloons or colors that fit your theme, a milestone portrait set that shows how much your baby has grown, and the cake smash celebration.
What if my baby does not like the cake?
That is completely okay. Every baby responds differently, and we never force the moment. Some babies dive right in, some smile more than they smash, and some are more curious than messy. We photograph your baby’s personality as it really is.
What payment do you take?
We accept cash, check, and major cards. If you pay in full with cash or check, we offer a 2% discount because there are no processing fees.
We also offer in-house payment plan options, and a card is required for auto-payment plans.
